Laptop Motherboard "Shorts" When Connected To Adapter

Each time a user turns on his or her computer, the BIOS gathers information about the major system components and performs a special test called the Power On Self Test (POST) to make sure that each component is functioning correctly. Some laptop manufacturers provide service manuals that will walk you through the process of opening up your laptop and removing various components. I reopened the case and pressed down the connector for the screen which was loose and low and behold the laptop was working normally again.

Depending the screen, they usually cost between $50 and $250 dollars—more if it's a high-end display or you buy an OEM replacement. The original dell case connector looks different, im sure I can use the generic cable that was included with the case but I want to post the pictures that way you guys can guide me in the right direction.

For example if you follow the editors steps and the laptop turns on and no video on the LCD, its apparently the video chip on the motherboard. It would be possible to modify a Dell supply to work with a standard ATX board, or to modify a standard ATX supply to work with a Dell board, but you'd have to do some cutting and splicing in addition to swapping some terminals around.
